I do it myself. My tire changing equipment cost me about 50 bucks....29 bucks for a Harbor Freight changer (just for the bead breaker), 15 bucks or so for the tire irons, and about 5 bucks for a pair of rim protectors.

The HD shop down in Folsom had a tire deal goin on till the end of March. I bought me an elite 3 at another shop for $118.00 and they mounted and balanced it on the bike for $45.00! The deal was supposed to be for tires purchased from them but if you know someone in service you can probably get the deal done like me. Nowadays you're lucky to find someone to mount & spinbalance off the bike for $25.00 - $30.00. Not suerre if it's a national deal or not...

I buy my tires on line and take them to either the dealer or an indy and have them installed. I used to change them myself, but it is not worth it to me any more. I'll gladly pay them 40 - 50 bucks to changeboth tires. They wouldn't do it fora while, but I think the hunger factor kicked in. They get hungry for business. I buy the tires for about half what the dealer wants for them.

Harbour Freight tire changer, mount/demount bar from http://home.comcast.net/~prestondrake/mojoweb.htm, a Marc Pharnes balancer, & I do my own. Cost is the price of the tire & a little time. Reward is a wheel that's balanced, a tire that's mounted correctly, no scratches/gouges on the wheel, fewer weights on the wheel, knowing the job's done right & a chance to inspect the bike.

I did one for a friend From California at Bike Week. He wouldn't have made it home on the tire he came with so we sent him off with a safer tire, & he saved the cost of installation.

WARNING!! If you don't have the right tools, or any experience, it can be hard work. Learn from someone that does it, & don't get cheap on tools.
