Ambient air gauge is classic Harley ploy
I've been following the various posts on how inaccurate the ambient air gauge is. Mine is too. So I took the outer fairing off today to see about relocatingthe sensor in order to improve accuracy.I don't see a solution, at least not one that would be worth the trouble. The sensor doesn't appear to be designed to withstand rain and it's not attractive at all, so moving it to an exposed, visible spot is out. Moving it to a protected, less visible spot in front of the motor probablywon't improve accuracymuch, due to engine heat.
Then it hit me! This is a classic example of Harley's time-tested marketing technique--sell us a situation that is not quite right and then sell usthe fix. The air temp gauge is pretty much useless, but you can make it right by replacing it with an oil temp gauge for $139.95.
