Damn.. . .and all this time I thought they put it there because we're so dumb we can't tell without a gauge if it's hot or cold outside--or we're so **** it's important to know the temp inside the fairing--WOW--I learn all sorts of important things on HDF. j/k

OK, I'm busted! Or could it be that it's always 48 degrees outside?

I've been following the various posts on how inaccurate the ambient air gauge is.
Just move the probe outside the fairing. Put it under the fairing between the forks. You will be surprised.
David, Where exactly did you move the sensor and do you have pics? "D"

Splice in about a foot of wire, drop it down thru/below the fairing and attach it to the backside of that chrome panel that's below the headlight. Mine is accurate within 2 or 3 degrees I'd say. It's not visible, out of the sun, in the open air and not near the motor to be effected by exhaust or motor heat. Very easy fix and makes the gauge fairly accurate for about 25 cents.

yeah, But, if they can't make a simple air temp gauge that is reasonably accurate,
then what makes you all think the oil temp gauge is going to be accurate?

how do you know the guage isn't accurate? could (and from what i've read elsewhere) be that its just a sensor placement issue.... surprised you didn't tell everyone to stand up and call their lawyers on that one.

What do you use the thing for? If it's hot, it's hot. if it's cold, it's cold. if it's to hot or cold to ride, then i don't. HD put it in there to fill in the hole they created in the fairing. they also get to charge you for the gauge and keep the price up. They win, you ???

Why do you need the thing anyway?

I just brought my 07 RG in for warranty repair on the ambient air gauge. Here is what I hate hearing "It works sometimes, and its not too accurate, and its off 20 degrees or so", from a Harley sales person and then a service tech. This is the same line they fed me with my SPORTSTER and its low gas light, "the low gas light is there, but you should just reset your trip odometer. The low gas light doesn't work properly". I mean if its so blatantly obvious these don't work why doesn't HD fix them at the source?
