Default Where/How to Mount Zumo 550?

I received my Zumo 550 today.

It is going to be a great addition to the bike. (And car)

Where on the bars did you mount the unit?

And, which mount did you use?

I orderd a techmount chrome handlebar mount for my Ultra. I mounted it on my left bar, close to the grips. It works great. I would recommend you check out the following sites for some additional information to help you out. I especially like the special order security screw to keep it in place vs. the one that comes with the unit.

Try these for more information...

Fuel Door GPS/Accessory Mount for FLHT & FLTR

// ABOUT APPLICATIONS //

This cleverly designed mount replaces the hinged fuel door on FLHT Models to provide a stable and easily accessible place to mount a GPS, satellite radio, or other personal electronic device. The mount quickly and easily replaces the stock fuel door, a swap that takes only a few minutes. The bracket angle is easily adjustable and it accepts almost any device that utilizes a cradle with the industry standard 4-hole AMPS pattern. The bracket is also notched to accept items like MP3 players, cell phones, or just about anything with a belt clip.

Note: Always ensure that installation of the electronic device will not interfere with handlebar movement.

I would be cautious with mounting your GPS to the fuel door, my personal concern would be looking down at the screen and not seeing the road. Besides I don't think I would want an expensive GPS near the fuel anyway. I am always very cautious about filling up but accidents happen and I would hate to see gas splashing all over the GPS.

Yes, I know you can remove it first but that's a headache and you know you will be in a bit of a hurry or just think well maybe just this once. This is when accidents would happen to me, dropping it, or forgetting to put it back on and driving away. Where would you place the wire, I mean how would you wire it up so the cord doesn't come in contact with the painted tank and vibrate the paint off or something such as that.

I think mounting it eye height or close to it is best, on the handle bar oron the inner faring.

Powerlet has a quality mount/power outlet combination that mounts on the Left Handle Bar next to the Switches.

Pictures will follow.

Good Luck
