Mobile 1 15w50

RE: Mobile 1 15w50
I was told by two mechanics certified by harley not to run synthetic in a twin cam.
Those two mechanics, if they indeed said that, are completely wrong. Some myths just simply will not die. Amazing. I have run nothing BUT synthetic in my Harley twin cams.

RE: Mobile 1 15w50
i have 66K on my 2001 RK and has has the 15W50 every 2500 miles. there is not enough difference in parts per million of the additives in 15W50 and 20W50 V Twin to warrant the extra cost. my engine has been opend up twice for cam changes and there is no unusual wear visible. and you can find 15W50 anywhere.

Is it ok to use Mobile 1 15w50 in a Harley motor?

there is no evidence to prove this anywhere. LOL.

I was told by two mechanics certified by harley not to run synthetic in a twin cam. supposedly the roller bearing's rollers will actually slide rather than roll due to the extreme slickness of the fully synthetic mobil 1. Harley oil is only partially synthetic and therefore not as slick. Don't know if this is actually true, but it was enough of a concern to me to not put it in my bike.

sorry 'bout the bad info. I had the same thoughts that's why I asked at the dealership. I kikn't even think of checking it out on the forum.
In my daily rider's owners manual (yeah it's metric, till I can afford another HD) it states specifically not to use energy conserving III oil due to loss of friction for the clutch operation. I run mobil 1 in that bike, and have had no problems with it.
This is the only reason I gave any credence to the synthetic oil reccomendations at the dealership.
once again sorry about the bad info.

There's no problem with a energy-conserving oil in the HD engine since engine, tranny, and primary fluids are all separate. OTOH, energy-conserving oils are usually, if not always, lower-visocity varieties like 5w30, etc.--rarely has high as the HD spec (20w50). An oil rich in anti-friction additives is good for the engine and tranny, but not the primary where the clutch disks are housed. In the primary all you need is a cheap 10w40 fossil engine oil, and IMO anything more expensive is overkill.
