I have put mine in the tour pack for trips and have never had a problem, like everyone said, use common sense and put it in a protective sleeve, and maybe throw a towel around it, you should be fine.

RE: laptop on the tour pack...???
Man you guys are computer junkies.....I can see if you have to carrying a notebook back and forth to work, but on a vacation?? I'm an IT guy, work on computers all day every day.....last thing I want with me when I go on a bike trip is a computer to remind me about work. Hell, I don't even turn my cell phone on!!

I carry a lap top for my job in the oil and gas fields, and I can guarantee that nothing you are going to do on the bike is going to be anything like the punishment we give them and they hold up fine. I was a little concerned when I first started taking one out, but there has never been a problem. These things get beat around in a pickup on really rough roads 8 hours a day.

I hear ya. [sm=guilty.gif]
Mostly when on vacation, it's just for looking things up or unloading pics off the camera..
Sanaga, I guess I took for granted you were here in the US. I can understand your concern. There used to be utilities that would park the hard disk, most now auto park as the mfr know that laptops are going to be mobile and subject to joltz and jars.
Take care.

RE: laptop on the tour pack...???
I ride with my laptop to and from the office everyday (plus many longer trips) so it's logged about 20,000 miles with me over the past 2 years - in my saddlebag though. I have a nice plush laptop sleeve I put mine in (has 1/2-inch or more of padding on each side).

RE: laptop on the tour pack...???
I use one of these when I carry my laptop in my tour pack:

I found a small laptop case (sorry, no link) for when I carry it in my side bag.
I'm a daily commuter (~45 miles one way) and have not had a problem yet.
