RE: Police & Harleys
We bought Kaw KZ1000's in the late 90's. They were sorry bikes. In 2000, we started getting HD's. Ours have been pretty much bullet proof.
I went to the MoCo's Motor School. I was impressed with how tough the bikes were. We rode them at walking speed, riding the brakes, and slipping the clutch for 8 hours a day for 2 weeks. Let me tell you, they got hot. My bike had one of the fans on it. It was on a thermostat and came on at the beginning of the day and stayed on all day. Not one of the bikes smoked. We checked the oil in them every morning. I don't recall anybody ever having to add oil.....Guess what kind of oil we used.....HD 360 dino.

Their ABS is superior for one thing and you have to think of pursuit and fighting traffic etc.

No major complaints from the NJSP. On the other hand, the Atlantic City PD, who used Harleys for decades, has switched to BMWs and seem to be very happy with them.
