Default Rear Sprocket Spacer

Does anyone have any experience with using a sprocket spacer. I have had a MU85 Dunlop mounted on an 02 for a year with no problems or interference except when backing. Then the belt recedes on the sprocket and hits the tire sidewall. Any reccomendations on thickness - was thinking 3/16"? How about alignment to the drive sprocket? Thanks for any insight. --- Tom

Pingel makes a spacer for using that tire on earlier models that didn't have the MU85 as OEM fitment.

I can't speak for the offset, but I've run the spacer for about two years with no issues.Alignmentlooks right on and the appearance is factory-installed! Probably the best accessory I've bought since the oil cooler...

How many mles since it was installed?
What size tire are you running? Dunlop? Metzeler? Other?

I've considered this spacer as well, but worried about the alignment issue. I was also told that the belts can't take much of a "side load/bend".

Firetender - what clearance do you have between the belt and tire? I have an 02 road king too. It came with an MU85 on it. when I installed the new tire - also MU85- I noticed a couple of slight scuffs on the side wall. I have about 1/4" clearance, belt to tire. Do I need the spacer or is it already in there?

The Pingel spacer is for 2000-2003 FLH models. It allows you to run the MU85 tire (142 mm), with no other modifications needed, that is stock on 2004-and-up models. I have maybe 7000 miles on the setup, a more stable-feeling ride, and plenty of clearance on the beltguard. I use a Dunlop D402 tire.

Your MU85 tire is not stock on the '02 FLHR. The spacer stops scuffing or the need to trim the belt guard.
