RE: what is everyone useing for oil
Just went to Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 in motor and primary and Mobil 1 75W90 gear oil in tranny at 1K service to see how it does. I have always used HD Syn 3 in the past. I never had any problems with it but thought I would try the Mobil 1 in the new scoot.

Oil is not that important... as long as you use a good grade oil dino or synth. The real question is how long will u keep your mcy and how many miles will u put on it. If you are like many riders...the mcy will be gone in 3 to 5 years (or sooner).. so does it really matter. Also ihave found little or no difference in heat issues re dino or synth oils . Ive ridden many miles on many mcys' and never had an oil related problem..
My 5 yr old 2003 Ultra has 60,000 miles on it.. Ive used syn and dino.. motor is as strong as day 1!

I use recycled oil. someone else provide it worked, all I got to do is filter it thru toilet paper and pour it in. do the same when I change. once the rolls are used up, I recycle them to the out house. in cold weather my **** dosen't get chapped due to the lubricant.

I think you will find that everyone will agree that "some oil is better than no oil in the bike and clean oil is better than dirty oil in the bike" Every thing beyound those two quotes having to do with oil for our Harley's will have varying and sometimes very argumenative opinions.
I use Mobil 1 15w50 in the crank, Mobil 75w90 in the transmission and Valaline 20w50 4 stroke motorcycle oil in the primary. I am no brain so I cannot offer anyscientific reasons for using this combination. I am going by what I have used in cars and in other bikes I have owned and economics. So my experience has been good with Mobil and I know my primary is doing a splash lube so use $21.00 Moble 1 for the crank, $14.00 dollar Moble 1 for the transmission and $3.60 per quart for the primary. I have over 90,000 miles on my 03 Ultra with this combination and it is still running strong. I change all three holes every 5k miles but I may shift to 10Kfor the transmission on my08Ultra because the oil is always very clean from thetranny at 5K, maybe.
I suspect if you use any of the syn oils mentioned you will be OK as long as you have a good rhythm for changing your oils out. I also think high end dino is good but your oil changes should be more frequent.
I use syn oil on my crank and tranny only because I think syn deals with heat better, again no formal education so I am going by what I read from the so-called experts and my personal experience. Myapprach will not beright for everyonebut it has worked out well for me so I will keep on. Good luck.
