You will lose all the gas so do it when the tank is empty. It is still a messy job.
Good luck.

RE: Gas Tank Removal???
Not too tough of a job, but the service manual helps.
A inch-pound torque wrench is kinda necessary to re-torque the
bolts that hold the top plate on the tank. Too thight and you'll
squish the rubber gasket out. Be sure to replace that too.
Getting the convoluted hose off the fuel pump is kinda a pain too.

Tips:
1. Get a friend to help.
2. Siphon out the gas as much as possible first.
3. When you remove the crossover line, have two pieces of3/4" heater hose to put over the removed line, andhave your friend do the same for the tank nipple.
4.Get something to drain the gas into also.
5. When the tank is empty, whoever has the best eyes looks up under the tank as the other person slowly starts working it off the frame.
6. Pay attention to where things are clamped and what is clamped.(I still have one extra clamp that I don't know where it goes)
