Default Audio Upgrades

Completed a few Audio Upgrades this weekend and wanted to share them.

Head unit Sony CDX-81 w/usb

Hog tunes in the fairing. Those I put in last summer.

Now I added a Pyle marine amp. Mounted it right on top of the radio. I had to use a band saw to cut it down a little but it fit pretty good and tied down with some tie wraps.

I had bought some glove boxes for my lowers off of e-bay and with a dremil tool and some hardware I converted them to speaker boxes.

I got a set of Polk audio db461 marine rated speakers and used the bench grinder and dremil to trim them to fit the glove boxes. Packed in a little insulation to help hold the sound.

The speakers didn't come with grills so I had some old speaker hardware that I adjusted and fit.

Then I got a little creative. I had some HD badges I took off of an old pair of boots so I epoxied them to the grills for a custom look.

The system sounds awesome. I'm really excited about it and can't wait to hit the road this spring.

Please excuse the dirty bike. The tanks off for some other mods I'm doing but I wanted to add what pictures I did have.

If you can ride you might as well work on it. Looks like you're being quite creative.

Looks good! Did you install the stereo with the biketronics kit for your controls?

Oh ya, I forgot the Biketronics kit.

I bought the Sony on line

The amp is 2 channel 240 Watts. I only have it wired to the lower Poke speakers.
The hog tunes sound pretty good on their own.

Is it possible to wire the 4 speakers to a 2 channel amp?

Yes you can. If your speakers are 4 ohm then it will run the amp in a 2 ohm load.

Which is why it has a high and a low level input? It's wired in to the low input now.
Do you think it would be worth adding the hog tunes to the amp?

The different inputs are for situations like putting an amp in a car with a the stock head unit that has no rca outputs to hook up to for the signal. If you had two sets of 8 ohm speakers hooked up to a 2 channel amp the load would be 4 ohm, the amp would create less heat and put out less power (speakers will sound less loud), Not all amps are 2 ohm stabile, but should be clearly labeled what ohm load they are stabile down to.
