Stereo Feedback
I am adding a stereo to my 2003 FLHTPI. Does anyone have suggestions for what speakers to use. My goal is to have a "KICK BUTT" sound system that can be heard at any speed and under any conditions. If you have added a stereo and have some tips, I would appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance.

RE: Stereo Feedback
Are you going to use a Harley stereo or a aftermarket? I've got an Ultra with factory equipment, four speakers, and it's a 4 ohm system. Replaceing the speakers with marine grade, and changing the wiring to accomidate 8 ohm speakers really improved the quality and the volume. I don't remember the name of the speakers, since I just went with the audio shop's recomendation, but I will try to find the bill and get you the info.

I used JBL compontents on my RG. I got rid of the air temp guage and the volt meter and put the tweeters in there and the org. speaker location I put the 5.25" speaker. At any speed I can hear the radio, including when I have the KW windscreen on. The tweeters were adjusted up toward my head, and I think that makes a big diffrence.

I just finished my upgrade today. Heres what I did and the results. I started with a stock Harley radio(up to 2005 not the advanced Harmon K one) with the casette player because thats what my bike has. I added the Hogtines amp and I put Pioneer 5 1/4 coaxials that I got @ Bestbuy for 51.00 a pair. I put them front and rear. They are rated for 4 ohms and everything works very well. The Hogtunes are rated for I think 5.25 ohms or something odd like that. It is loud and very very clear. I mean it is freakin loud. I am impressed plus i have speakers to sell on ebay to get some of money back.

Component speakers
I'm rebuilding a wrecked 05 FLHTCUI and the stock stereo took a big hit. So I put in the Biketronics kit and through help here on this site, chose Polk Audio DB5251 component type speakers (marine rated) . I think this type of set up makes good use of the available space - it fit well and the mounting 'cups' for the tweets are included. I filed the mounting cup's edge to nestle in the corner of the fairing inner - but otherwise the fit on both speakers was good.
This type of system has speaker crossovers to fit in there. I mounted mine right on top of the Sony deck. Fit nice - the stock stereo is much taller so there was available room. Polk makes a simular speaker (DB521) in coaxial but the tweets make them too big to fit front or back. They are both 4 ohm.
