Does anyone ride in steel toed boots? Do you have an opinion one way or another on the advantages/disadvantages of riding in steel toed boots?

I have to wear them at work so I ride in them as well. I wear black Carhardt lace up steel toed boots and they work great. I think the steel toe would give you some added protection if you crashed and slid on the pavement for any distance. Especially if you slide face down it would keep the toe caps on your boots intact. Just my $.02.

I don't think it will matter that much, if you need more abrasion-resistance than the leather on your boots, the least problem will be your first three toes on each foot. And I've had toes broken, right through the steel toes. [8D]

From my recent experience of having my foot ripped off my leg, I was told by the doctors that if I had been wearing steel toed boots, I would've lost all my toes as well. Having the foot reattached was tough enough... wouldn't want to have to deal with the 5 friends too!

I would agree for most situations, they would be fine. However, there is that chance. I do wear boots, but not steel toed. Just my $.02

WOW! hope everything's ok now!

How would wearing steel toe boots make you loose your toes? Was your foot crushed or did they have to cut your boots to get to your foot? Just curious as I have not heard this before.

Same here - really like steel toes for a lot of reasons, but if it's cold my toes feel it a lot more. My current boots are without.

I always ride in boots that cover my ankles and have steel toes. The reason is that in crashes, there are a lot of very painful injuries to the ankles and feet. As a fomer EMT and as a Police Chaplain, I've seen too many sneakered feet cut off or mangled so badly that I want to protect mine. I also wear a helmet even though Texas law allows riding without one. I will ride in a T-shirt during the summer, but I always wear heavy jeans. Guess I'm allergic to asphalt.
