Default Help on filter question please.

I have switched to mobil 1 vtwin 20/50 , no regrets but!
I change my oil filter with every oil change and I have heard
that with a full syn oil that I now need to double my filter
changing for the filter to be effective. How is this possible
without changing the oil again? Why does a full synthetic oil
clog the filters more? OR was this a ploy for the filter company
to sell more filters any ideas?
Thanks,

I change oil and filter at 5k miles. No reason to do it any more frequent....

If you are using a good quality oil filter there is no need to change it between oil changes.

About the only way you would need to consider that is if you changed over to syn after you had aLOT of miles on it and did that on the initial changeover. Otherwise, it's a waste off time and $$$

I read about another brand syn. They were saying that the additives in the oil and the oil itself were good for like 20-25,000 miles but the filter would not be able to filter past like 10,000 miles. So at 10,000 miles you had to change the filter and then top off the oil. They were talking about cars but maybe you heard something along the lines of the filter has to be changed twice during the life of the oil, which would make sense ifyou ran the oil for that many miles. It wouldn't make any sence to methat you would have to change the filter twice as often if you were just going to run the syn oil forthe same length that you would run normal oil.

So Many URBAN MYTHS.
There is no need to change your oil filter any more often than you do the oil.
The oil keeps the harmful deposits in suspension till they pass into the filter.
There the filter should trap them. Any brand name filter should do this adequately.
Personally I use Valvoline (not as expensive as Mobil 1) and I use a carquest filter
(made by Wix).
When my 06 EGC was delivered to me, it had factory Dino oil in it. The owners manual
says 5k oil changes. so from a mileage standpoint I would not be gaining any advantage from
going to synthetic oil.
However, synthetic during that 5k does have other advantages over dino.
It has a lower friction so perhaps a slightly better mileage can be expected and
supposedly suspends harmful deposits better so less wear can be expected,
Because the molecules are all the same the microsopic film that protects the surfaces that
would otherwise rub against each other is always the same across the surface (theoretically).
It does withstand heat better so would provide better lubrication protection in this situation
over extended intervals.

No need to change your filter before the schedule oil change especially if you are doing the oil changes at 5K intervals which is what I do no matter what oil you use. The primary & tranny can go further.

I can see changing the filter IF you are leaving the oil in for a longer than normal period of time. One of the benefits of synthetic is that you can supposedly extend the drain period. In that case it might make sense to change the filter at the normal interval. Of course you will have to add enough new oil to bring the level back up.
