You didn't mention how many miles you have on the bike. The more miles you put on the better it will run and the tranny noise will get better. 1000 mile check up you could switch to a heavier Syn tranny fluid and this will help. Your last resort is the IDS upgrade, that should do it for you.

As for changing tranny fluid, how does this affect warranty? Something tells me if I put non-HD fluid in and something blows up, the mothership is going to say the warranty is null and void.

Only have 2400 km (1500 mi) on it so far. Eventually, I'd like to put wide whitewall tires on it so I may go the IDS route when I do the tire change. For now, I'll make sure to have the noise checked every time it's in for service so it gets documented.

As long as you don't runit dry, what's Harley gonna do, send a sample of your tranny fluid to a lab?Use Mobil 75/ 90 synthetic, it's much better than the dog **** Harley puts in

Using other than Harley fluids will not void your warranty. However, there is nothing wrong with the Harley oils. People have favorite oils and tend to get emotional about it but it is just like people arguing about which beer is better. It does not matter, it is just a matter of choice. Change the fluids when the manual specifies and you will be fine. I have been using Harley dino oil since 1973 and never changed the fluids more often than recommended and never had an oil related problem. Just saying.

Choo yes the odds were in favor of a noisey one early on but it still happened later on,couldve been early models with late sales. This so called -never heard noise- had the MoCo trying various things to try to pinpoint the cause. They finally got something that worked.
