I did a lot of research on vinyl. I think that would be a very good option if your worried about trade in time???There are some quality products out there and if you keep her waxed up I don't think you will have a problem fading or anything.... I just put flames on yesterday and they look great. I get tired of them or trade my bike in, off they come.

If it was just on the fender, you could have someone make up a magnet for you. As long as you keep it clean, you shouldn't have any problem with the paint and you can remove it as needed.
No matter what you end up doing- it's a great tribute.

Bambam, live in the moment, man. Screw worrying about the possible effects on a possible trade in value at some possible time in the uncertain future. If you want to pay tribute to your Dad by putting something on your bike, do it. It's a nice thought.

And Creepshow, that is a sweet looking flame job. More pics?

One thought I've had is to have "Forever Young" engraved on a custom shift linkage. My son had it on one of his tattoos. He passed away 3 years ago. Like you, I've been looking for a neat way to offer some sort of tribute.

I went to a local guy who does car pinstriping and truck lettering and had my tourpack lettering painted on. Only cost $20 and came out perfect. It's your bike - do what you want regardless. (I'll bet your dad would be real proud of it!)

Like Creepshow and RonH, I went the vinyl route recently too. Custom design on the fairing. Turned out awesome so I had it clearcoated. Couldn't afford "real" paint so I thought I'd give it a shot and I couldn't be happier with the result.

met a guy a couple weeks ago with "mean Jean" on the oil tank of his superglide. It was his pet name for his wife who died a year or so ago. Seems she was always after him to go buy a motor cycle cuz he wasn't getting any younger. He did and remembers her on every ride.
I say go for it.

BTDT. Painted my number on the bob tails of two FXR's. Seemed like a good idea at the time....<shrug> Decided to sell one of 'em & knew I couldn't let someone else ride my number. Had to pull the fender & get it re-painted. Not a big problem, but some extra cost. On the new bike I'll buy a fuel door, or a derby cover, or a point cover, something, & engrave it on that. I can stick the stock piece back on if I sell it, & if it'll fit whatever I change to I'll still have the engraved piece.
