My 2005 Road King gas tank fill hole (where the threads are for the gas cap) has what looks like gray primer and it is pealing off. I took it back to the dealer for it and the service manager doesn’t know what it is ether. We both looked around in the service area for another 2005 Road King and could not find one to compare to. We did find a 2003 which had what looked like a clear coating (bear looking metal – no corrosion) and we looked at 2006’s on the showroom floor that had what looked like a black almost porcelain looking finish. My question is does any one have a 2005 and what kind of finish does there threads in the tank for the gas cap have and are theirs pealing? Maybe a step was missed on mine!
I have an 05 RK Classic and my filler hole is dark gray and no flaky coating. The thread area in the tank looks a little funky from the cap but nothing peeling.
My RK came in March of 05 and the finish looks like just light gray sandable primer. Maybe this is why it is pealing off, they must have missed the final finishing step on mine?
