Default Header Ping

I just installed a True Dual Headpipe kit from www.fullsac.com and rode about 120 miles. I noticed that when accelerating (mostly in 5th gear at about 80 mph) I'm hearing some sort of pinging. It seems to be coming from the rear cyl. like a header ping.
Has anyone experienced this problem before? I'm running Supertrapps by Kerker. Could they be causing too much back pressure on the rear cyl. ?

My Rineharts did that when they were new but it stopped after a few hundred miles. The dealer told me it was common.

I read somewhere that the air temperature sender for the ECM is located in the intake manifold - as the TC88 heats up (air is drawn into the throttle body after passing over the cooling fins), ECM leans the mixture and pinging is very likely to occur. So, if we run our TC88's hard (hard acceleration), pinging will be a fact of life unless the spark map is changed. Your dealer is right - of course, and, when we modify the exhaust and intake systems, HD is off the hook if damage occurs.

I'll run it again to see if it clears up. I can't rationalize it clearing up....if it does'nt I'll change the slip-ons bact to the Harley Touring mufflers an see what happens. Otherwise I may have to get the ECU remapped. Or possibly go with a PowerCommander to enrich the rear cyl. Any opinions between the PowerCommander and SERT ????

Will do ............. Think I will go withe the PwrCmdr. Then Dyno'd to get correct mapping for my setup. Just don't know if I'm going to leave the Supertrapps on or go with the Harley Touring Muffs.
