Mechanics? at Autozone? Who said not to use 75/90 someone at Autozone or a mechanic at a dealership thats working on the bike? Redline Heavy Shockproof is 75W250. We (all the mechanics at my shop) all use it in our bikes. Its the best stuff to use in a trans. You can use M1 or Syn 3 in the tranny but you WILL have a leak at the shift shaft seal sometime down the road. Its not an IF, its a WHEN.

I run HD 20w50 in the engine, Formula+ in trans and primary. Oil is changed every 3,000 miles, trans and primary are dropped every third oil change. Air cleaner element is cleaned and re-oiled every third oil change. I have over 73,000 miles now and never had a fluid/filter related failure. Buy the stuff at a local indie shop that carries MOCO products, and I always keep a little extra on hand. The only variation on that is during the hottest months of summer, or if I'm going on a long trip, I run 75% oil, 25% Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer in the engine.

I went through stuff like this 20 years ago HD oil or not.
Now I just use HD products and trust HD and my dealer.
It makes life easier when you feel you can trust the
mfg, dealer, and mech. In my opinion, it would be foolish
for any of them, to use something that would not work well.

hogdoc,
Where were you when I changed over to Syn3 in my tranny? I have that damn leak and could have used that info before hand !! I now have to deal with it. Any short cuts? I really don't want to have to pull the primary. I am now running Mobil synthetic 75/90 gear in the tranny.

FWIW: I just had the 10k service done. Up til now, I used just regular Harley 20-50w oil. The service writer encouraged me to go with Syn 3. Now, I ran Syn 3 in the 02 Ultra for 58000 miles with nary a problem, but this 07 didn't seem to mind regular oil. Today, the day after the service, we went for a 90 mile putt, including some rapid acceleration and high speed runs. I hafta say, the engine runs smoother and revs quicker, and the trans shifts much smoother. I guess Syn 3 makes a difference. [8D]
