I have a marine antenna mounted in the fairing from West Marine for about $10. Works great even when I get out in the sticks. Really cleaned up the back of the bike.

Bought the shorty whip from Advance but lost a lot of reception. Ended up taking blot cutters to the bottom of the stock one and took 18 inches off of it. Works just as well as before and is much shorter now.

I have the hidden antenna under my fairing. The works great. I get the wx band, all FM channels I get in my truck, etc. It was not that expensive if I remember right (I got it installed before takingdelivery).

I just got one of those flexible rubber shorty antennas and stuck it p under the fairing above the radio and it works just fine, pulls in the stations that same as it did with the stock whip.

What year is your SG?They changed the antenna's on the '08's. On the older ones you could cut the whip down and retighten the set screw, on the new ones you have to screw out the entire mast.

You say yours seems to be spinning. On my '08 it comes unscrewed, but gets caught on the rubber o ring by the stud as you remove it.

Same here. My short antennas from JM work perfectly. I plan to do the hidden fairing mount real soon since I will be setting the tour pak up for quick release/detach.

I have done both I cut the stock one to about 10 inches and it worked perfect, the I put a $6.00 dollar short antenna with the spiral on it because it looks better and it works good also, I hated the look of a remote control motorcycle with the long stock antenna..
