Thought about installing a smoked 4" windshield on my Ultra,however, I'm concerned about the potentialbuffeting. Has anyone else tried this and if so what were the results? Thanks

 

I am not sure how tall you are but I am 6'3" and I tried a 6" on my Ultra and quickly purchased a 9". It was like I didn't have a windshield at all. What do you have on right now? I still have the 6" in smoke if you are interested.

I ran a 6.5" on my 03 Ultra for many, many miles becasue I like the looks and it does not bother me to get a little wind on the top of my helmet. I tried the 4 incher (still have it) but it was a little to much wind on my chest. But it you like it and the wind does not bother you, it's no big deal.

 

I'm 6'1" and find the 4" is just too short for high speed or long rides; found the 8" works great. In Atlanta's summers, I'll use the 4" for local riding because the extra breeze on the chest is welcome; swap it out for the 8" otherwise. American Thunder, an Ebay seller, has them for under 30 USD, IIRC.

 

I went from the stock height on my SG to a 6 inch. I had to go to the taller one so I could get the 3 leather pouch windshield bag to fit. I'm 6 foot and the wind now hits me right at the top of my helmet. Works for me.

 

It looks cool to have a shorter windshield but it will never protect as well as the standard 12 inch on the highway.

 

How are these measured? From the top edge down to the chrome strip at the top of the fairing? Or is it down to the bottom edge of the plexiglass itself prior to being installed? Not sure what height mine is but I like it. It's about at my chin or mouth when seated. I can see over it easily but wind buffeting is minimal.

 

Depends on how Tall you are and the way you ride... You WILL get more wind with a shorter windshield\windscreen

 

Thanks for the advise. There is a guy on ebay that makes and sells 4" winshields for about $15.HD wants over $100. For only $15 think I'll give the cheap one a try. Damn stealer, $100 for a piece of plastic ... ????

 

My suggestion would be to try a Clearview 8 or 9 in heigth with the recurve. You will get the lower look you want and still get wind protection. Call them and they will be happy to figure out what heigth will work best for you.
