Ditto on the carbon fiber helmets from advanced carbon composites at www.carbonfiberhelmets.com. I have the non DOT, but, it just misses certification by a little bit. Their DOT verson is just a bit thicker. Very light, very strong. Much lighter than my HJC half helmet. I like mine a lot.

Also living in Cali and have been riding before & since the helmet required law... Seeing so many people after they go down - and the older I get I finally went with a Modular Helmet... Might as well have as much pretection as you can get seeing as it's the law you wear one any way...

 

HCI makes a low profile Dot approvedhalf helmet. One model is fiberglass but has a layer of carbon fiber on top. Looks good.

 

Profin..... hey does your saddle bag ,plastic guard ,cover the front portion of the top also?

you know, like, lay it on the top, fold over the front.
cause that top edge seems to get wear marks
