Dealer tells me it's not worth the cost? He suggests following the maint in the manual? I'm confused??

 

I switched to Mobil 1 VT 20/50 and Mobil 1 75/90 Gear Lube in the transin both my 2004 Fatboy ( Sold ) and my 05 RG at the 1k change.

I am running Royal Purple in my 2007 Dodge Ram and am very pleased with it also. I can't find the RP for the bike local and would have to order it by the case at $140 a case so I stick with the Mobil 1 which I can get right up the street at Autozone.

 

I would suspect that your dealer wants to see you in there for oil changes / service more often. with synthetic, you can go further in between changes. I have feeling he is thinking of himself and his pocket. Just one mans opinion.

 

As for me - I bought my 06 Road King Classic back in September with 6,000 miles. Ichangedthe oil to syn. as soon as I got her home.

 

I went at 1K service.

 

That's because here's the reality. Dino will work fine as long as you change the oil when you are supposed too. The difference between Dino and Syn when it comes to "needed" protection and lubrication is very little especially, if you change you oil per the owners manual. But if you plan on keeping the Motorcyle, especially these air cooled monsters then you are better off changing to Syn which will protect your engine as it get hotter whichis when Dino starts to degrade and actually breakdown and run away from vital parts.

Sorry the Engineer in me came out. Bottom line with these air cooled engines why not spend the extra $3 bucks a quart to protect your investment.

ok, so I now know I will definitely have it done when I take it in for the 1k service...now I'm sure the dealership will recommend a certain brand, I'm not going to ask what everyone's favorite is because everyone is different, but what is a good kind to go with? Thanks

 

Drained the oil out of all my newbikes as soon as I get them home from the dealer. Mobile 115/50 goes in.

 

I changed mine at 5k with syn3
