08 Anniv. Street Glide..When removing right hard saddlebag I....
checked and filled up the back tire. When I went to put it back on it was kind of tough to get it lined up. Also the pins were hard to get positioned to turn. It seeme something is wrong. I took the left saddle bag off the week before and it was a snap to put back on. I noticed on the left saddle bag there are 2 little rubber thingys that are on the chrome bar under it which fit into the little holes on the bottom of saddle bag. I looked at the right one which is the one that seems something is wrong....and the 2 little rubber thingys are attached inside the bag which makes it hard to line up the saddle bag and you don't know the default position it is suppose to be in unlike the left saddle bag. This is the first time I have taken the bags off and I am wondering if it is suppose to be like this???? I have had the low profile chrome bag guard protectors installed a while back and they require the old saddle bag rails to be replaced. I am wondering if the tech couldn't get the rail where it was suppose to be and just took the little rubber positioning thingys that belong on the rail under the saddlebag and glued them inside the saddlebag instead. Could someone please look at their right saddle bag on a SG and let me know if this is suppose to be like that?
Thanks

The black rubber thingys you are referring to stays on the saddlebag. They have little **** on them that mate to the area in the channel on the bottom of the bag. If they are staying on your chrome rail when you remove your saddlebag, then (1) you risk losing them and that will destroy the bottom of your saddlebag, and (2) you need to place them firmly back into the correct location on the saddlebag themselves, therefore, each time you take the saddlebag off, they should lift off with the saddlebag as well.
Putting the saddlebags on is no trick either. Just line up the holes in the saddlebags with the holes in the chrome hangers on the bike and stab it with the pin...........easy as walking and chewing gum.
EDIT: the risk of losing them is not as if they would fall off when riding, this is not what I was referring to, what can happen is you can take the saddlebag off and forget the little black rubber bushing, this can fall to the ground and you may never notice this. If you put the saddlebag back on without the rubber bushing, the vibration of the bikewill chew up the bottom of your saddlebag pretty good. Don't ask me how I know, as a friend of mine went through this very ordeal.

I noticed that I no longer have issues with alignment if I install the rear pin first. once its secure I install the front pin. Since I started doing this I have had no more problems.
And yes, the rubber stays in the bag.
