That **** blows, I can honestly say I almost know how he feels with the exception of losing a leg. He's going to lose his job. And I know exactly how that feels. I was broadsided almost 3 years ago operating a police dirt bike broke or fractured everything from the waist down needless to say I am now retired.

Yup, that was sad to hear. Hope he pulls through the best he can. I know exactly wherethey went down and it is a kind of tough curve, especially in the very foggy, wet weather we have been having.
It was touching for me as the motorcade passed by my shop today during the procession.

I hate to hear it and I do know how he feels - been there, done that and am doing good, now. I can tell the amputee that life isn't over, it's just gonna be different. At this point in his hospitaliztion he is overwhelmed by what has happened and is unsure, and worried, about the future. He'll see that some doors of opportunity have closed, but what he'll find out is that other doors open. So, just drive on!
Hopefully his surgeon can get an amputee to pay him a visit. Here in Columbus, I have often been given the chance to vist folks in the hospital who have lost a limb. When I come walking in, on my fake leg, it is nice to see them look at me and then realize that I too have a missing leg - at first, due to medications, they don't realize what I represent. Its often the family (wife, son, daughter, mother, etc.) who asks questions about their loved one's future, and I tell 'em what to expect. My wife sometimes goes with me to talk with to a wife. Later, when the patient themself, is more alert, I go back and we talk. What I stress is that life isn't over - it will get better - look at me.

If you do a search you will see that many MC Cops die every year on the job. In fact I know of three last year that died just doing motocades for the President. Two in Hawaii and one in state I can not remember. He hit a concrete barrier as they enetered a parking garage.
The Secrert Service pushes the speed envelope sometimes and with the bikes up front they force these officers to drive faster. Not so go to hit a tight curve at 80MPH and fifty cars on your ***. I guess a cage is a cage no matter who is behind you.
