I can't imagine being able to fix it without taking the fairing off. It really isn't hard to do and while your in there you may as well order some better speakers.

I put the J&M with the built in tweeter and they have plastic covers so you wouldn't have to worry about them getting damaged as easy.

Dang, I was afraid of that, seems like a lot of work for such a small issue.

I think I have an extra set of stock covers laying around someplace. I might have thrown them out, but I can't remember. If I have them there yours for free. Let me know. I replaced mine with J&M's also. I won't be able to ship them till next week, so if you're in a hurry I can't help you.

Taking the fairing off isn't really that hard. One tip. When putting it back on, take the headlight assembly out of the fairing. It's a lot easier to get the fairing on the hooks that way. The headlight just snaps back into the fairing once it's re-mounted.

Thanks for the offer Biggzed, might nice of you! I'm in no hurry but if I have to remove the faring I'll go ahead and replace them with something more durable, probably the J&M.

That's cool. I looked and can't find them anyway. Pretty sure now I remember tossing them when I replaced the speakers. The stock covers are junk anyway. Good luck, taking the fairing off is really pretty easy.
