RE: What to expect for 09
I`m with ya Bob----put that there Rod motor in a Tourer--we need more HP---just ain`t right to spend 20,000 on a scoot than have to spend more for extra power---my 1977 74ci was good 30 years ago----ain`t much more power in the stock 96ci---thats a shame---------

RE: What to expect for 09
I think that the MOCO may introduce a Touring model based on the V-Rods engine/frame/drive line.....that I could see. what I cant see is the MOCO moving away from a "air cooled 45* V-twin using pre-unit construction". If they did that it would spell the end for HD very quickly. They even tried unsuccessfully to get a patent on the sound of their engine. They know that they have 105 years of tradition behind them, and a following of riders who connect with that. The air cooled V-Twin is their bread and butter, and belive me they know that all too well. We will never see the MOCO move away from the 45*V-Twin....I think we will get to see them flying cars they been telling us about long before we see the MOCO **** can the 45* V-twin...make it better, yes.....change it around, yes...make it bigger, yes, but stop making it.....not.

I believe its only a matter of time before the touring bikes get the liquid-cooled bits, but it will probably be a retuned version of V-Rods V-Twin not the exact same engine. The potential extra power would be nice, but would take me (and others apparently) a long time to get used to ... [:'(]
I'm also from the same camp as jcbpa ... for me, Jeeps must have an I6, Mustangs must not have OHCs, and HD must be air-cooled ... and they all have to have that shake-thing going on. I once had the last-year-built air-cooled VW van (83?) ... the engine was in pieces when I got it - what a piece of cake to work on ...

Other manufacturers are producing larger and larger water cooled V-Twins that retain the look and feel of being air cooled (look at the Vulcan 2000 as a great example, good looking non HD engine if you ask me). There's no reason Harley can't continue producing their stock and trade 45* V-Twin complete with the air cooled look while making it water cooled.
The key, as someone pointed out, will be hiding all plumbing and the radiator. Hiding the hoses won't be a problem, but that radiator...I haven't seen a water cooled bike yet that's accomplished that.
That said, wouldn't matter to me. I loved my V2K's power and reliability, and if the moco can give me a similar water cooled engine that retains the look and feel of air cooled as well as that bikes engine did, I'd buy it. I'm not a huge fan of the VRod engines ergonomics.
