Got my '02 used last year in '07 and suspect it's the original battery but don't know for sure.

I figured if the battery was on the verge of going it would give some indication but I guess not, eh?Looks like I should be replacing it this spring and not taking a chance of it leaving me sitting along the road someplace...I hate when that happens!

Now, while the battery is disconnected for the changeoverwill that mess up the anti-theft alarm system codeor is there some kind ofmemory or something there thatwould keep it operative as per usual?

Harley AGM battery is made by DEKA and is available thru automotive parts houses a lot less costly than thru HD. The battery in my 01 lasted 5 years.

ORIGINAL: choochoo

I bought an 01 EGC in Sept 01. Wrecked it in 02.
Pulled battery and it sat on back porch ( no heat) til this time last year.
It still had 4.79 volts in it. charged it up and it started the bike several times last summer.
Then developed an oil supply problem and haven't had time to look into it.
Then this winter it has been one thing after another.

But I agree they use a good battery.
My understanding is the battery is made by Yuasa. But have no proof of that.

Well needed new snow blower this year $800
needed new pellet stove $1200
Now the damn washer went out going to be $200 or $300 for that.
so bike is on hold once again.

'05 Ultra new in May '05, ridden daily, no tender, 34k miles. Battery died in Nov '07 at 4am on a 30 degree night.
I always thought a tender was for use if the bike wasn't ridden regularly. Apparently not true.

Can the tender be wired up to an existing Gerbings connection off of the battery ?

Wow, seeing some great battery life here.
My experience with after market batteries is 2 years for sure, 3rd is iffy, anything after that is lucky.
BTW, a battery will "sulfate" when as it is being drawn down and this sulfation is what kills our batteries.
A battery that maintains an absolutely full charge and has a perfect specefic gravity will a l o n g time - this is where the battery tender helps.
