for those that don't know how electronic fuel injection systems work in general
the below links should help you.
This may be generalized and on a car, but they all work the same way.
we use sert's and pcIII's etc. On some cars and trucks the actual chip is replaced.

simplistically a carb was just like a straw in a glass of water. suction from the engine drew the fuel up and out of the float bowl, the amount was metered with air bleeds, jets, and needle valves.
Idle, off idle, cruise, pulling, acceleration, WOT were just happy compromises.
electronic is just more precise .
