i agree with cwilks. I had a street bob b4 my glide and versus versus, the fairing/windshield is more relaxing than on my street bob. i dont get pushed around by the wind. But I stil like to feel the wind, since I am on a bike.

 

I actually use a Clearview 4.5" w/re-curve(that's a 6.5 in my sig for winter)....it acts like a 6.5 but maintains the SG look

 

I bought the Kuryakyn Flamed last fall. Its about 5 to 6 inches tall. I foundout real quick that during the winter months it sucks. I love the look so I'm keeping it for summer use but for trips andthe colder months the stocker goes back on.

 

When I got my first Street Glide I came off of a Fatboy with a full size windshield that I looked through most of the time. I immediately thought I had to have something much taller than the 4", so I bought a 9" FastAire. I'm 6' and it helped but even with the fairing it didn't keep the wind off me like the KING size softtail windhshield. Since then I've played around with just about every size. I've swapped around a fair amount and usually run between a 6" dark smoke Slimstreamer and a 7" Black Opaque Cee Bailey. I get a fair amount of wind with both, but I've come so far from the need to be completely protected from the wind that now I find it real hard to ride with anything over 7". When I want REAL wind protection I'll put on the Cee Bailey SSC 11" or 13' depending on the wind conditions. For the most part though, I've come to like and accept a healthy amount of wind in the face!

Run with an 8" fastair in the summer, 6' tall, loads of wind in the face. Thinking of going with 9" clearview recurve this coming summer.
Winter I use a 12" clear HD shield. Works great.

I run the stock 4" also 7,000 miles.260 miles yesterday and another 170 today, some at speeds 80-90 for me it is fine, but i know opinions vary widly on this, I started out with the 4 so became used to it, but as in your case you would be going from something taller to shorter so you may noticethe increased wind and buffeting more.

I hated the 4" shield on my streetglide. It was fine if I never went over 40 mph. After that there was too much buffeting.
