Saw this too when I was shopping for a tour pak. Chopped has 1050 cubic inches less of capacity but costs more. Just one of those things that makes you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Or WTF?????? Guess you have to pay more for "the look".
There may be agruments for the chopped version beyond just cosmetics. The chopped TP is lower, giving the bike a lower center of gravity, and is lighter. Any extra weight up that high can be felt. If you ride solo like I do you may not need the relatively massive capacity the King TP affords, and the extra weight isn't a good thing, even though slight. I picked the chopped version for all the above reasons, and the capacity issue based on my last TP (a pre-Evo version) that was adequate, having about the same volume. When I tour I have room to spare in the TP, so adding more capacity won't help me. That said, if you ride two-up, I don't think there is a choice--King TP for sure.

Don't need the backrest pad for the tour Pac as I am installing a mustang backrest..!!

I have the King Tour and used it twice. Mines going on eBay today c'w tour seats cause the bikes been slammed and hotrodded. I gotta tell you though, the king is the way to go cause the only time you use it is when you travel and t holds a ton more. I think the chopped is more simply because they produce less of them than the king tour.

I would agree. If you are adding luggage capacity why would you even want a smaller size trunk? This item is all about function. But apparently enough people like the look that HD can get the price.

CaptSam: Glad you like your Ebay chopped TP. What is your "all in" cost? I ask because this doesn't come with hinges/latches/lock/key/mat/pouch/Paint (if a color other than black or white is needed).

Also, do you have any concerns because this TP doesn't come with the metal bottom plate that is standard on HD king and chopped TP's and is not available for seperate purchase.

I need a black pearl one if any one is getting rid of theirs. I'm only gonna use it when I take the wife on over nighters. I just thought the chopped one came with small back pad since it has a higher price. I think she would be more comfy with the back pad on the king, with the arm rests.

Ha...!!! Not all in yet.. Just started with the Tour Pack itself.. Going to take my time and get it together piece by piece..
There are many ways to bolster the backing backing plate etc. I have a friend who is a paint body man I can get to shoot the paint to match my bike..

I would suggest that you ask "ICLICK" what he has in his, because that's where I got the "IDEA" from after seeing his on his bike.. Very good looking and functional..!!

CaptSam: I think I did ask Iclick and IIRC he said it was nearly the cost of the HD chopped TP--if it wasn't Iclick it was another HDFer who did it. Makes a huge difference in cost buying the parts and installing them yourself and having a friend paint it--versus--paying someone to install the hardware and shoot to color match.

If you're going to install a Mustang solo seat with backrest (#79100) like mine and a solo rack, read this:

https://www.hdforums.com/m_1118659/tm.htm

There are clearance issues you need to know about before commiting. The fix is a mod of the solo rack, which isn't that difficult.
