Default Polk Audio Speakers

Guys, I was at Circuit City tonight and found some 5 1/4" Polk Audio Speakers on Sale for $80.00. I bought them and brought them home, but I noticed that they are 4 Ohms, not 2 Ohms. Is this going to matter??? They are supposed to be Marine Grade so weather shouldnt be a problem.

If your radio is a 2-ohm system, yeah - it'll matter. Don't recall all the fine details, but J&M John gave a pretty good dissertation on the consequences a while back....

Yep - it's 2 ohm. Just buy the 4 ohm amp from Hogtunes and you'll have it made!

Yes you're speakers will work just fine. A 4 ohm speaker draws less than a 2 ohm so it will be fine what you really don't want to do is use a 4 or 2 ohm speaker on an 8 ohm system but useing a 4 ohm speaker on a 2 ohm system will be fine. I have those same speakers on my boat and can't be happier. I have been debating on putting them in my street glide let me know how they sound versus stock. TOM

Yes they will work just fine. I have Polk DB525 in my 07 street glide. I think they sound better than the OEM's....but they definitely aren't any louder.
I guess it's because they are 4 ohm and the OEM's are 2 ohm but I'm no expert.
RonH is right about needing an amplifier. I haven't done that yet as amps seem kind of pricey.
Speakers sound good till you get over 70 mph or so,then the wind ,road noise seems to take over.

Electrical resistance (impedence) 101: The greater the number, the greater it's impeding the power going to it. In other words, you'll need more power to turn them on. That's why they're not any louder, an amplifier will cure that woe. The drop-in Hogtunes are only $20 more and the J&M's $30. A better bargain. I bypassed J&M's when I had a '96, one of only 2 years application that was double what the price for earlier or laters were. Crutchfield Pioneers for $40, custom grilles for $8 and a little rivet drilling and pop-riveting.
