HQ 113" LIVES (kinda) with pics
This was only supposed to be 16" ape hangers, got them on and should have quit there but..... I figured since I had some stuff apart, I would do a few other things. Platinum air suspension, 21" frot forge-tech creations 5with single 6 piston pm caliper, rear 18" forge-tech creations 5, chrome front end and while doing that 2" progressive lowering kit. As you can see she is pretty well stripped right now. Bought most of my stuff from shooter64, what a heck of a guy, will definately be dealing with him for future projects!! Will post some morepictures when done, she will be pretty pimped out!! The only other thing I should have done was paint the inner fairing, oh well next year.

RE: 08 winter project
ZJAvy, you should do your forks yourself, if you have any mechanical ability it will be a piece of cake. I love working on my own stuff, get it just the way I want it and know I didn't miss anything, not to mention saving at least $65.00 an hour!! Yours would be even easier to do without a fairing in the road.

RE: 08 winter project
I am thinking about doing it myself but I have no idea how to take off the fairing, can ya believe thats what scares me. Yeah I have a tad bit of a mechanical experience, working on rockcrawlers and long travel race trucks. I guess I should pick up a shop manual. Any special tools needed to do the forks? I used to do the forks on my dirtbikes myself.

Should only have to take off the outer fairing, not totally sure about that on the street glide, but I think I saw someone post that about the street glide. After that you just take off the calipers and the tire. Then you will want to use a 6mm hex (you will need a long one to reach the right side) andremove the two bolts inside the bottom of the forks and let the oil drain. Then take the front fender off, remove the cans, then take the snap ring out of each shock using a dental pick (works well). Then you can use the lower sliders like a slide hammer and remove them past the seals. Put back together with chrome kit and new seals. I found that St. Paul Harley Davidson on ebay was the cheapest for the chrome kit, couldn't find one for the 08 if it has abs but im sure they have them.

RE: 08 winter project
Well decided to take it another couple steps further!! Took off the inner fairing and am getting it painted to match and bought a SE heavy breather kit from Zanottis for it too. Now I'm thinking that a 103" or maybe a 113" from HQ would be kinda nice!! HAHAHAHA! There may be a divorce by the time I'm done with this thing!!! Phil you are probably the guy to talk to about this, just wondering what is all involved in doing a 113" build. I went to HQ's page and priced things out, just wondering what else a guy is going to need to doit, thiswould be my first build and have read lots about it on here but would just like to hear it from the horses mouth so to speak.

RE: 08 winter project
Well so much for only doing 16" apes!! Now as you can see the motor is out and she will be getting a 113" shortly. The bottom end is on its way to Darkhorse and Doug from Head Quartersis sending me the 113" kit. Thanks for the help so far Phil and Guy, it is really appreciated!! Can't wait to get this thing back together and on the road! Will post pictures as it progresses..... These pictures are of it with the motor gone. Kevin and Doug at Head Quarters and John at Darkhorsehaveallbeen great guys to deal with, would recommend them to anybody.
