Has there been a solution to installing the Rider Backrest part # 52622-03A and others listed for 97 & later Touring bikes on an 08 Ultra models as yet. Due to the ECM being mounted on top of the battery apparently the Rider Backrest we all have enjoyed will not fit on the 08. The dealers say HD is aware but no solution as yet. Bummer.....

Currently have this back rest transferred from an 05 Ultra to my 07 Ultra. Probably will be changing out to an 08 Ultra but finding several fitment issues so far.

 

I installed this same backrest on my 08 Ultra, I didn't run into any fitment issues.The ECM location was not an issue during installation from what I remember.[8D]

 

the back rest I put on the 07, went right on to the 08 without anyprobs. I dont use that little
strap that goes towards the front though.

only prob, on the 08's,,,, tryin to get your hand in the seat hole, its tight

 

I had the dealer install the adjustable backrest on my 08 Ultra before I took delivery, and many others here have it....shouldn't be a problem.

 

no problems for me. easy day

 

Dealer told me that the earily 08's had the ECM located in the wrong place during initial 08 build and later 08's had the ECM relocated!! Go Figure!!

 

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I ought take the backrest unit off and save for the 08. I have seen several postings on these different sites that doesn't fit. Oh well, if it doesn't I'm sure I can sell it.......great unit.

 

There is a retro fit kit listed on the instructions for Installing the Ajustable Rider Backrest kits (1997 - 2007) on '08s.....#52332-08.

Not sure if that is what you are looking for, but hope it helps.

 

Bluerose thank you. Do you have any info on what this retro kit consists of or attaches to etc...

The dealers of course are still not in the know as yet. Apparently the US dealer meeting was last week or so in Texas, maybe they haven't read all the material as yet.

There is so much great information shared on this forum. My dealer is always the last know.

Sounds like keeping the one from 07 is a good idea now.
