It's not something I do, but I wouldn't be offended if someone pointed out a spelling or grammatical error to me. In fact, I'd feel exactly the opposite; I'd be appreciative. Personally, I don't see anything wrong in someone trying, in their small way, to correct the tragic dumbing down of American society.

There are some people on EVERY forum that find the need to correct others spelling and grammer. Would they do that to your face? I doubt it. I personally think it is ******* behavior. They are not your parent or teacher. I think it is an OCD behavior with some people. They just cant help themselves. There are very few times when I cannot understand what the person is trying to say, so why the heck should I care?

Spelling correctly is not a big priority to me, I just try to do it because I don't want others to think ill of me, being a retired teacher and all. When I type a post, re-read it and find a spelling blunder, I can't help it, I go and edit the passage. Usually I correct my errors before I hit the button to post my comment.
I don't correct another's post or criticize aonther's spelling errors - it's just no big deal to me. Most posters are more concerned about communicating a point, than writing a literary masterpiece. It is funny however, when I read someone's attempt to "dis" someone else for mispellings and, lo and behold, mispell words in their "dis". Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black.
