HQ103 or GMR 107
Hello
I'm real close to pulling the plug here just wanna get some diff opinios real quick.
Both companies sound real good. I spoke with Steve here at GMR great guy seems to know alot and the HQ well I think they have a good reputaion.
This is my first Harley and I want this bike to just scream and of course be reliable.
Currently I have the woodsTW6 cams with the sert and road rage pipe.
I want this to be my last time I do this too. (I hope)
What can you experienced vets here tell me
I'm all ears and eyes.
Thanks Alot
Sean

Whatever you decide, you want to make sure all your parts compliment each other if you plan on keeping your TW6, etc. Steve from GMR is "HDWRENCH" here on the forum will tell you what parts compliment his build unless you plan on buying the whole package from him to include cams and all. Shoot him a PM. Lots of folks here use HQ also.

I have the HQs 103 it is fast and so far no issues at all -- it has added an unwanted sound to my Rinehart tru duals -- I am changing them out soon -- don't know what I will replace them with but it will be a 2 into 1.
Having said this I would go with the GMR 107 --- I believe GMR has worked out the issues that previous 107 may have had.
If a little motor is good, a little more is better---I don't think the price difference is that significant

If you've already talked to Steve, you should also talk to either Doug or Kevin @ HQ.
If you really want the 107, HQ does them to. I heard about one that Topeka Harley finished up & tuned this week & was 120+/120+.... I don't remember the exact numbers.
Either option will give you an EXCELLENT build.

You should probably check-out the Head=Quarters' website for the different 103" packages they offer:
http://www.head-quarters-usa.com/ushome.html
The GMR 107 uses the HD jugs and bores them slightly larger for the 107; HQ's 107 uses RevPerf nikasil cylinders for the larger bore; Doug at HQ is not yet convinced that the HD jugs can be reliably bored larger for the 107--it's easy to do, he's reluctant to do it and is waiting to see how reliable this is.
Bigjohnonepercenter here getting his stuff for the 107 from HQ and is having Doug do the cylinders for him--so we will see how John's project works out.
If you buy from HQ, Kevin from HQ will provide you with a SERT or PCIII map that will get you going; however, it will be a conservative map, and he'll provide post installation tuning assitance if needed.
If you want to avoid going into the motor a second time, you should consider using the cams these guys recommend for their packages--your TW6 will work but the HQ cams will work better with their 103--can't say how much hp/tq, but it's significant.

While the traditional HQ "package" uses HQ cams, there are plenty of folks that already had something else and used that. Give him a shout & check....
FWIW.... My 98 @ 10:1 was built with HQ-0039's & thought thet were that best I'd ever used. As time went by & more & more sets of the HQ575s got on the road, Doug told me that I "may wanna try" a set of 575's someday. Now that I just redid my build in the 120" flavor, I used a set of the 575's.... He was right, this is a sweet grind!
