Miles vs months on and oil change?
Well I have not got out to ride as much as I would have liked over the last 7 months and now find that I have 2000 miles on my last oil change that was done 7 months ago. I use Syn3 in all holes and was getting ready to change the oil when a friend said wait till you get 2500 miles on it even if you go 9 months between oil changes. What's your feeling on this? Is it ok to go 9 months on synthetic if you don't have 2500 miles on the oil?

If you live in a climate where you can ride year round I would agree with your friend. Since my bike goes into winter storage around November each year I change fluids before putting it up for the winter no matter how many miles I have on it, but then I ride on those fluids the next season. If I'm doing heavy long distance riding I have no problem going 3,000 or a bit more between changes (I also use Syn3).

RE: Miles vs months on and oil change?
I'm in Dallas so I get to ride year round and I take the bike out atleast once a week most months unless it's real cold and wet like it has been this month. I just don't get to go very far due toyoung kids that require lots of attention. lol... We try to get out once a summer and but 1000 mile trip on the bikes but other than that it's just a few toy runs and out to eat and such. The oil still looks good so I think I'll just plan on changing it when we get back from skiing the first week in Feb. I hated to go buy $100 worth of oil a week before we go on vacation. I know I'm tight so the wife says. lol...

With synthetic oil I would change it at 5000 miles or once a year and not worry about it. Change it at the end of the riding season. However, if you have taken a LOT of short trips and havent gotten the bike up to temperature I would change it more frequently.
