Default Miles vs months on and oil change?

Well I have not got out to ride as much as I would have liked over the last 7 months and now find that I have 2000 miles on my last oil change that was done 7 months ago. I use Syn3 in all holes and was getting ready to change the oil when a friend said wait till you get 2500 miles on it even if you go 9 months between oil changes. What's your feeling on this? Is it ok to go 9 months on synthetic if you don't have 2500 miles on the oil?

If you live in a climate where you can ride year round I would agree with your friend. Since my bike goes into winter storage around November each year I change fluids before putting it up for the winter no matter how many miles I have on it, but then I ride on those fluids the next season. If I'm doing heavy long distance riding I have no problem going 3,000 or a bit more between changes (I also use Syn3).

I don't put too many miles on my Fatboy because I ride the bagger mostly, so I got in the habit of changing the oil before storage then ride all summer without worrying when it's due. once/year or 5,000 miles is what I do with amsoil.

I'm in Dallas so I get to ride year round and I take the bike out atleast once a week most months unless it's real cold and wet like it has been this month. I just don't get to go very far due toyoung kids that require lots of attention. lol... We try to get out once a summer and but 1000 mile trip on the bikes but other than that it's just a few toy runs and out to eat and such. The oil still looks good so I think I'll just plan on changing it when we get back from skiing the first week in Feb. I hated to go buy $100 worth of oil a week before we go on vacation. I know I'm tight so the wife says. lol...

With synthetic oil I would change it at 5000 miles or once a year and not worry about it. Change it at the end of the riding season. However, if you have taken a LOT of short trips and havent gotten the bike up to temperature I would change it more frequently.

I change it every 3k miles regardless of how many months have been....On my hayabusa I used to change it every 1k miles reason been that that bike was ridden really hard all the time..

MIN. 5OOO MILES ON TRANNY + PRIM THEN CHANGE IT... DONT GO BY
"MONTHSOLD METHOD" .. MOTOR 3500 SOMETIMES 5000.. THEN CHANGE.
IVE HAD MANY MANY HD'S+ BRAND X MCY'S OVER MANYYEARS NEVER ANY ISSUES..WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOUR TORE DOWN A MOTOR AND CHECK FOR WEAR DUE TO NOT CHANGING UR OILS ENUFF??
TOO MUCH IS MADE ON OILS AND OIL CHANGES IN THIS FORUM IMO...
ALL THIS TALK THEN YOU SELL THE BIKE IN 3 YEARS WITH 12000 ON IT.... SO THE REAL QUESTION IS HOW MANY MILES WILL YOUR MCY HAVE ON IT WHEN YOU SELL IT... BOTTOM LINE, WHO CARES ABOUT OILS? REALLY ! REMEMBER WHEN MOBIL 1 ADVERTISED "THE 25,000 MILE OIL" ! WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT ?
IF YOU INTEND TO KEEP UR HOG TIL 2060 YOUR OILS AND OIL CHANGES MAY MAKE A DIFFERENCE..BUT REALLY!

Well that makes me feel better, I always let the bike warm up and always ride the bike long enough for it to warm up completely. I'll just wait and change it at 3000 miles or 1 year. Thanks!
