Go with street performance SE mufflers, V and H headers and a Fuel Pak. You get the look, the louder than stock, but not too loudand reducedheat.
That's close to what I did. I had V&H Dresser Duals and V&H Ovals. After awhile the Ovals were just too loud for me. I switched the mufflers to H-D Touring mufflers with the Double Groove end caps. I find they are slightly louder then stock but have a deeper sound.

Might as well try these on their level 1 mods:

I was told my Bassani true duels with power curve pipe were loud. Maybe depends on each persons ear.
I this set up on my Ultra..it is very loud...you will be turning up the radio.

I think the best choice would be to get the V&H true dual head pipes and then research which slip-ons to add. There are some good performing slip-ons that are quiet...Supertrap SE comes to mind.

I have the V&H with Rinehart Eaglebeaks on my RG it is just right for me.

I have V + H true duals on my 08 RG. Reasons for this choice;
1. I like the look having the side of the bike opened up, no crossover pipe covering the tranny.
2. Gets rid of a bit of heat on the right leg.
3. V + H pipes will fit ANY stock size muffler, so you can play with different stock cans (cheap at flea markets) to get the sound you want.

Note: Newer touring model left and right mufflers have different baffeling inside, so you cant use them on a true dual system. Look in the inlet end with a flashlight before you buy!

When I had my Rinehart TD's installed, I was told a few times how quiet it was..............that was on a Stage 1 88" motor.
