RE: Are you truly a Tourer..???
Yes I'm a tourer (well begining tourer anyway). Since we got the Ultra in late June I've spent 5-1/2 weeks on the road which included a trip to San Diego and have ridden through 19 states. Planning on 4 long trips this year, the longest one to Washington & Oregon. I just love life on the road riding this bike.

RE: Are you truly a Tourer..???
No, not me.....at least not yet. I just bought my first touring bike (at age 45) back in October, and I still only have about 500 miles on it. I am planning on taking a few extended trips this Spring/Summer, but I have too many things going on in my personal life right now to just go away for a few days.....although I wish I could!

RE: Are you truly a Tourer..???
I ride a touring bike according to the manufacturer, We ride an average of 30+K a year primarily on back roads through small towns and stop to swap lies with the town characters and to absorb the local color, yep I got a few stories also, We ride to enjoy the scenery, the people and the ride. The first 300+K miles were on Goldwings now on a Harley and lovin it. I don't claim to compete with a lot of the long distance riders but This style works for us. We also have our Shih Tzu named Harley with us on most trips. Now there is a real lover of the bike. If that can be construed to fit the deftinition of a tourer then that is what I B.

I've been living in the Philippines for the past 12 yrs and get back to the States maybe 2-3 times a yr for 2-4 weeks at a time. Up until last year I rode a chopped hardtail (that thought it was a bagger), bought a new SG in Oct. I come back to ride; first I turn the phone off, take the watch off, get gas and go. Usually turn on the weather channel and let them plan my trip or at least give me direction. I eat when I'm hungry and sleep when I'm tired, only concern is 'where's the gas station'. Been riding since the mid 60's, same philosophy. Usually cover anywhere from 5 to 10,000 miles and every so often, I'm happy to put the bike away cause I've had enough. Once in awhile. One of the few things in life that still gives me "butterflys" in my stomache is walking up to my scoot knowing we're hitting the road. Does this make me a 'Tourer'? Dunno... I just ride

A tourer? What's that? Ya'll have WAY too much time on yer hands - always tryin' ta define who's what!
Ah ride a bike...ain't been on vacation WITHOUT bein' on a bike since '96. Most of the vacations have been 4-6k miles within 2 weeks or less. Most of the days are 500 mile ones - one memorable one wuz a tad over 1000....
Oh, almost fergot - that's WITH the better half AND pullin' a trailer behind the bike!
Most memorable? Ah....spring of '97. 'Round April - decided ta visit the oldest boy at an Army base in CO....via FL, GA & LA! Hale-Bopp (SP??) comet wuz passin' over then - pulled over on a stretch of Hwy 50 in Kansas ta watch it pass overhead fer a while...what a sight! Got ta CO, took the boy fer a li'l ride - on the way back, thar wuz Pike's Peak....yeah, we did - in the 70's at the base, a freakin' BLIZZARD at the peak! Liked ta have froze our cajones off - but man, what a memory ta go back to!

@hd2007 Nice pic of the the GI bridge!!!! I feel you pain Could only do riding until near end of Nov. WNY, gotta to love it,
Do I consider myself a tourer, NO. I would like to go on longer trips, but usually day trips of a couple hundred miles at a crack. I have a little one, and bunch of other stuff that does not allow me to go on a long run. That being said, for staying local I do rack up around 4k-6k a year. I did do 1k to break in the new bike in Sept before we went to MB for fall rally. Yes I trailed it along with a buddies bik and all of our comping gear. If you had to go with the OL
[sm=rant.gif] BTW why is it in WNY if it snows a little less than an inch there is about 10lbs of salt on the road. It drives me nuts. When it was nice outside the roads were all salt covered in Niagara Falls. What the ***! Man it sucks.
