What started your HD Spirit?
I already made this topic in the general forum, but I figured that I might get more feedback from putting the same thing in this forum also.
A good friend of mine started in 1967/68 he was 10 or 12 whenhe was allowed to sit on his neighbors bike,, He remembers a big white solo seat with a chrome railing around the back,,from then on he was hooked........For me it was the bat-wing fairing and a big head light,,Hook Line and Sinker-- from that point on for both of us we were hooked.
How about you, whatgave you the HarleySpirit?

RE: What started your HD Spirit?
17 years old in the Summer of 1971 walking down the Lowell,MA blvd along the Merrimac River.
All of a sudden I hear this loud RUMBLING EARTH shaking sound .... I was like WTF ?
There is no trains in this area ! All of a sudden I look ahead at an on comming curve
in the road and see the most beautiful sight in my life (other than my beautiful Wife).
A huge pack of atleast 200 Hells Angels comming my way ......
Their Lowell Chapter was in Lowell and they must have been heading for Laconia !
I stood there in amazement and awe as they rode by .......
A sight I will remember to my final day !
Ya they may be considered Outlaws or 1% ers but .....
They fueled my fire for a motorcycle since THAT day !
38 years of riding motorcycles and enjoyed EVERY mile :-)

RE: What started your HD Spirit?
Got my first Honda at age 12 in the early 60s, 2 older brothers were already on Cushman's. In 69 my oldest brother came home from the Marines with an old Sporty....all my younger brothers also started on Honda bikes in High School. After many years of raising families, Military service for some of us we all started migrating back to motorcycles. One older brother was on a Goldwing, 4 other brothers on Harleys, I waited nearly 2 years on a waiting list at 2 dealerships for my first Harley, but couldn't wait any longer, so ended up getting a 96 Yamaha Royal Star. In 97 all 6 of use from all parts of the country ended up in Sturgis together....I had really tricked out my Royal Star by then, but still wanted a Harley....finally picked up my 02 Dyna in the fall of 01. Tried to keep both the Dyna and the Yamaha for a couple years, but found that only the Harley gave me that ear to ear grin just by thumbing the starter, so I sold the Star in 03. Dyna was a nice ride, but the wife and I almost always ride together, so we finally bit the bullet last fall and got the 08 UC. If I would have known how good the Ultra handled I would have gotten it sooner. Still have 5 of us on Harleys, the Goldwinger traded in his ride for Corvettes, but only after a crash that really scared him away from 2-wheels.
