Default Question about latch on saddle bags

Hi, the top latch on my saddle bags ( the one in the pic with the 2 small holes) are these attached by double stick tape? (mine are) how are they suppose to be attached? bolts?...etc.thanks for your help and any pic's you might have. thanks

Yes, they are supposed to be attached with a double sided adhesive. It is the same stuff that is used to hold emblems on the sides of cars. 3M makes it.

You see them two holes?

They are begging you to drill them out and stuff stainless fasteners there....the adhesive tape will hold them while you drill.

Place your ear down close and you will hear them screaming for it.

(use fine thread fasteners and back up the glass side with thin but large outer diameter washers and a dab of blue locktite, then dremmel the protruding bolt threads flush with the nuts so they don't snag wehatever you stuff in your bags)

then use a jam nut and do not tighen them too tight

On my 03 Classic, 32k with no latch disfunction. I would just retape if it happens. A lot cheaper then trying to purchase a new lid if you crack it.
