Diagnosed today with prostate cancer. For any of you brothers that have had this experience a little reassurance would be greatly apprecitated. Went in for a regular check up and PSA was at 4. Had a biopsy done and test came back positive that I have cancer. Only one of the 12 biopsies they took showed cancer. It was rated at a Gleason 7 (whatever that means, hopefully some of you that's went through this will help me out) I know an 8,9 or 10 isn't good. 7 is borderline. I am 56. The specialist that did the biopsy and went over the results with me wants to do total removal. I am 56. He said someone my age should have the prostate removed for a total cure if, and he thinks by all indications it is, contained in only the prostrate. The side effects also scare me. If someone would to like to pm me that has come through this with positive results that would be great. He tells me he is good and has done hundreds and says he'll do everything possible for me to get me back to normal but man it has me bummin right now.

bummer dude. i have not gone through this before, but my brother in law had/has cancer. not prostate, but some really weird type that there is only like 5 cases in the entire us. he is in remission right now, the doctors are top notch....
you gotta believe that the docs know what they are doing, and that the alternative is much worse.
be praying for you dude. good luck.

Sorry to hear this.
I'm no expert, but my dad was diagnosed with PC in 1983 at 63 years old. They did the bi-lateral at the time and he was just fine.
He passed away in 2006, but not from the PC. (at 86 y.o.) The autopsy showed that the PC was back, but a bad heart got him first.
This is 2007....they know a heck of a lot more today than 1983. You'll beat it.
Sorry I can't help with what the side affects of the protatectomy are.
Best of luck, keep us updated.

Sparky... the only comfort I can give you is that if we all live long enough we also will get it. Take a long look before you go tothe knife. Some say we will die in the same amount of time with or without the knife. Please know I am not an expert on this and am older than you with nothing wrong... yet. But read up, start getting you body all the help it needs to fight this with prostrate support herbs, minerals, etc. It is a situation where with age the prostrate gets more active.. which is what cancer also does. Read, read, and get educated on this.... Above all... do not let stress get your body down so it can not fight it.
Good Luck my friend... you will overcome...

First off let me offer my sympathies to you. I hate really saying it that way because it sounds kind of morbid but let me assure you that I don't mean for it to sound that way.
Both my grandfather and my father-in-law were diagnosed with Prostate Ca in the last year or so and both have come out of their endeavors in good shape. The only differences I see in your situation is that you are younger and they both had the implanted radiation seeds done as opposed to removal. I would think that both of those are advantages in your favor.
My best wishes for a complete and fast recovery!!!

Sparky-Mo, This might sound corny, but for the past 2 weeks , Every time I shower there is 20 or so hairs in the bottom of the tub or on my towel. My hair is falling out really fast all of a sudden. But on the lighter side. Seriously, I 'll talk to the man upstairs this evening about your concerns. For it is written, For faith, is the substance of things to come and the evidence of things not seen. Don't worry HE'S in control. Dan
