Sparky_Mo. My older brother was diagnosed with prostrate cancer about 2 years ago, at about 57. He had it removed about a year ago and is doing very well. Just recently he found his PSA is going up just a little so just this week has gone in and will be undergoing some targeted radiation to hopefully kill the last of the cancer cells. His main word of wisdom on this would be to try find the best prostrate surgon you can to do the the operation. I know its easy for me to say, but try to take it one step at a time, the other effects that can occur after surgery are better dealt with after the bigger issue is taken care of.

My thoughts and prayers will be with you. I wish you the best possible outcome and that one day you will be able to post and say how glad you are that you got it done and are enjoying a cancer-free life.

I would get a second opinion and also talk to some of this multitude he has cured just to be sure ,you only got one life. Second for the rest of us I get a PSA every year along with my blood work during my physical.(95% accurate)I also have had the man look up you know where and will again as often as they say! The colon and intestines are the most important organ in the body and you must keep it clean and functioning at capacity or it will kill you! Just hope everything goes well and you are back hard at it soon.

Diagnosed today with prostate cancer. For any of you brothers that have had this experience a little reassurance would be greatly apprecitated. Went in for a regular check up and PSA was at 4. Had a biopsy done and test came back positive that I have cancer. Only one of the 12 biopsies they took showed cancer. It was rated at a Gleason 7 (whatever that means, hopefully some of you that's went through this will help me out) I know an 8,9 or 10 isn't good. 7 is borderline. I am 56. The specialist that did the biopsy and went over the results with me wants to do total removal. I am 56. He said someone my age should have the prostate removed for a total cure if, and he thinks by all indications it is, contained in only the prostrate. The side effects also scare me. If someone would to like to pm me that has come through this with positive results that would be great. He tells me he is good and has done hundreds and says he'll do everything possible for me to get me back to normal but man it has me bummin right now.

4 years ago at age 48 I was diagnosed with Stage 3 Thyroid Cancer. I had immediate surgey to remove whatthey said was a huge lemon sized growth. For quite a while I was down, real down but I learned to deal with it on my own. I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Reach out to everyone and anyone. What I have learned thru my experience as well as friends with this problem is that you treat it ASAP and perhaps most importantly GO TO A TOP NOTCH FACILITY to deal with it and always get a 2nd opinion, perhaps even a3rd.I went to the Fox Chase Cancer Center which is known in the Philly area as one of 2 considered the best at what they do. Do not go to the nearest hospital or doctor I almsot did and what he would have done may have killed me. More than likely and I mean this seriously, you will be OK. The mind controls the body and if the mind is positive the body will follow in suit. It works. I've got your back in spirit and pray it works out well for you.

I still haven't gotten the nerve to get my prostate checked.

Spark, my thoughts are with you!
I turned 51 last month, and visited my doctor (who is also a friend) for a prostate exam and PSA. He told me that there are 2 kinds of prostate cancer. One is fast growing, which is the one you need to be careful of and have it monitered for a while. The other, he says is so slow growing, that you'll grow old and die from something else before the cancer ever bothers you.
So I asked him how the hell you tell the difference. Monitoring for a period of time is what he said.
Here's to hoping you have the slow kind!

Guys - if you're over 50 get a PSA test annually. If it's elevated your urologist will probably recommend a transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and biopsy. It's not painful - it's just uncomfortable. The doc will use a local so you just feel pressure. Been there, done that. The hardest part is lying on the table in your birthday suit for a half hour with basically a ***** up your a$$.But be a man and do it. PM me if you need some encouragement. Don't put it off though.

Sorry to hear the bad news but unfortunately this is very common today. There have been a lot of advances in this area so I think I would get a second opinion before I did anything. Best of luck to you.
