07 vs 08
Hey gang,
I am debating on selling my softail and getting a streetglide (more like its going to happen for sure but the question is in a week or 2 months, etc.) The dealer made me an interesting offer. I was looking at a brand new SG and one of the guys there said they had an 07 that was one of their rental/loaner bikes they would sell me for several thousand less. The bike had 14k miles on it but with the money saved I could throw a 103 kit on it and still have money left over to get a custom paint job on it for roughly the same price as a new 08.
So here is my questions. I remember when the 07s came out a lot of people were complaining about the tranny whine of the new 6 speed. I rode an 08 loaner for a couple hundred miles and never noticed it. Are the 08 trannies the same as the 07s and I just didnt hear it or did they do something to fix this whine?
If I bought a bike with 14k miles on it but threw a 103 kit in it, essentially the motor would basically be like new wouldnt it? And how bad you think that bike got beat up being a loaner/rental? Input please, also are there any other differences between the 07s and 08s I should know about that the dealer isnt telling me?
Thanks all.

RE: 07 vs 08
I can't help you with the '08, however I did own an 06' Dyna with the 6 speed and now own an '07 with the 6 speed and I have never noticed the "whine" of the transmission. Granted with the '07, I added exhaust, a sert, dyno and synthetic at 1,000 miles. IMO I would take the '07 and add the goodies......if you were only worried about the tranny. What about warranty with the 103 kit?
Good luck,

The Same Engine & Transmission are in the '07 & '08
The '08 added the IDS as standard equipt.
The '08 has a larger fuel tank
The '08 have opt. ABS Brake System
The '08 has Electronic Throttle Control
It's always more FUN to buy NEW - That way it is YOUR from day 1 and anything you do to it was your idea... If you buy a used bike with 14K and do a 103' up-grade - That doesn't make it new... It's just a up-graded bike with 14K on it...
Dealers Rental are normally always serviced on time - Are they riden hard and put away wet??? Well I have rented a few HD's in the past and I didn't ride it any different then my own...

RE: 07 vs 08
here's a few items that the 07's don't havehttp://www.coastriderschapter.nl/2008modellen/2008%20Model%20Year%20Technical%20Forum%20Touring. pdf
ultimatly, the decision will be your, but for my 2 cents
I'd get the 08....I did and have no regrets
