07 vs 08

RE: 07 vs 08
I don't know if this varies from state to state but in Ohio, you only pay tax on the difference between your trade in and the NEW vehicle. However, if you buy a used vehicle, you pay the full tax amount...
Example
$20K new Bike
$15K trade
$5K difference
$5K * 1.07 sales tax = $5,350
$20K used Bike
$20K * 1.07 sales tax = $21,400
$15K trade
You pay $6,400
Can make a big difference when you are talking about a $20K purchase... I assume they would consider the 2007 a "used" bike. Just another thing to consider.
BTW - I just traded my 2003 Fatboy for a 2008 Street Glide. I am looking forward to bigger saddle bags (lockable), radio, etc. Now I just have to wait a few months before the snow and salt goes away!

RE: 07 vs 08
I had and 07 Ultra and traded for an 08 Ultra.
The main changes are the Brembo brakes, really no comparrison, The large fuel tank is grest when you consider it also comes with the odometer that counts down till empty, The cush drive, the throttle by wire, the seat is different also.
The real difference to me was the engine, I am sure that the cams are different in the 08 bike because it is a much friendlier engine. It lugs well and pulls harder IMO. The engine deffinately has more torque.
I put 17000km on the 07 and now have 8000km on 08.
Good luck
Later....

eze86: I too traded-in a 2007 (in my case, a Fat Boy) for a 2008 Electra Glide.

This is a very good point and the tax situation is the same everywhere as far as I know. You only pay sales tax on the difference between the new bike and the trade-in. Regarding what is considered used, once a bike has been titled, regardless of its model year, it's used.
