Default Booking Sturgis Campsite? Who recommends what site?

Hey guys...been wanting to go for years and i'm just now booking my first trip down to Sturgis. I know this subject has been beatin to death over the years, and I know where to party, but what are the best campsites if a guy wants to get some sleep after partying in town. A place where security is good and I don't have to be concerned about my bike while i'm out partying.

I have heard Hog Heaven is pretty good, but would like some more suggestions before I go and book for me and a coupe of girlfriends who are riding down with me. Gotta be a place with good hot showers, preferably some decent washrooms, and a secure camp site that keeps an eye on bikes and gear. I'd also consider a hotel/motel or small cabin if anyone has or knows of one at this time frame.

We plan on taking in some concerts while we're down there (Skynyrd and ZZ Top) and can't wait for August to roll in.

Thanks in advance to everyone who chimes in.

In '05 and '06, me and the OL stayed at Hog Heaven. In '06, we got there on Saturday and went to a KOA in Cody from Monday to Wednesday. Thursday we went back to Sturgis. We had a cabin in Cody, so we didn't need the tent so I left it there. When we got back it was just as we had left it. Don't know if it was the official security or not, but I doubt it. The folks that are there are pretty cool and everybody watches out for everybody elses stuff. At least that has been my experience.

Try the Elkview campground. It's only a few exits south from downtown, inexspensive compared to other placesand very quite. The showers were ok with plenty of hot water

Same here on Glencoe, Have stayed their since '02, some say they screwed things up w/Rockin the Ralley, trying to compete w/Buffalo Chip with music, raising their prices and such, well who knows, time will tell, you can get in on the "early bird special" which they will announce in a week or two, Lots of shade, good food, "Tittie, can I say that?, Alley" is making a comback, across the street from the Full Throttle Salloon, down the road from Buffalo Chip for more music, Chip doesn't have much shade. Only down side is that you are on the wrong side of town, a couple of miles from town, threw town to get to the hiway and the same thing to get back, can be time consuming. But all in all a good place to stay in my humble opinion.

If your going towards sturgis from glencoe, there is a gravel road on the left that takes you right to the interstate, its kinda
long(2 to 3 miles i think)and all gravel but it sure beats sitting in the heat for 2 hours trying to get through sturgis.

There was plenty of hotels available last year when I was out there. The news stated that attendance was down a couple hundred thousand.

Last two times I went, stayed at the Fairfield Inn in Spearfish. Wife is not a camper, nor am in in90+ degree temps that can be the norm for the whole week.Glencoe and the Buffalo Chip are close to each other, at the far end of town and the traffic to get there can be brutal, walking you bike for a mile or so in the evening. Elkview is good and Hog Heaven-I have toured both and they seem to be top notch. One comment, once you get South of the interstate by a few miles, the elevation goes up, and the temps go down at night, with heavy dew. Just something to consider.
