Black streetglide? Powdercoat the forks and powdercoat the engine guard and leave it on!

I prefer the mustache gaurd too. Had one on my Deluxe. Now that I have the SG, and I can move my passenger pegs to the bar as highway pegs, I'm not willing to spend the 220+ for the mustache.

In general, I would for sure want the gaurd of some type: comfort protection for the bike

I put the HD Mustache engine guard on mine. Personally, I liked the looks better than the stock guard, plus it's a couple of more places to put my feet on long rides.

A buddy of mine put his RK on the ground at about 25 mph. He had to replace the engine guard and a bag lid......period.

The last bike I had, a guy at an indy shop dropped. It landed on the engine guard and the bag guard. Not a mark anywhere else on the bike.

Yeah, I say leave it on, or consider a different style.

Personally I've never seen a set that I've liked for my Heritage. Takes away from the look of the bike IMO. That being said, the RG has them on, and they'll stay on. My wife is getting the Heritage you see below and I'm not sure which one I'll be more upset about if it goes over.

She took it for a ride one time up the alley and asked..." What if I dropped it???" I told her to just keep walking the way she was going and don't come back for a long time. She doesn't ask to ride it much after that.

Much as it kills me, they do what they're advertised to do, and I'll be putting the on for her ( and me).

I laid my Road King down at 40mph, and it wasn't even damaged..............all because of the crash bars.

I'll always leave the crash bars on any bike I buy, and if it doesn't come with one..........I'll put one on.

Having had the misfortune of dropping my '07 Fat Boy without one, I'd say leave it on. Fortunately, when I dropped the Fat Boy, it didn't sustain any serious damage. I only had to replace one turn signal lense and the derby cover, but it wasn't long after this incident that I added an engine guard. My new Electra Glide came with guards and they're not going anywhere.
