Default RE: inner fairing paint

Just having the Street Gide painted and my guy is concerned about the built in mirrors as they are on a pivot and feels the paint will get cracked if the mirror is adjusted. Ive looked thru a lot of pictures of street Glides and only found 2 painted.Pretty much everyone leaves them black.has anyone done theirs when they had the inner fairing done.. I been a silent observer of this site. I think its the best and plan on participating much more now.By the way would any of you warmer climate based guys like the #*&# 4plus ft of snow we have had since Dec 24th.Thx for any responses and looking forward to maybe meeting some of you folks at Americade in June . The white stuff might be gone by then

I had the same concern, so I had the painter shoot the sides and back of the fairing mounted mirrors, and left the post and mount unpainted.

Jerry,

Did you get the switch housings painted to match or powder coated, that looks pretty good.

I called the dealer and asked who they use for paint work. I called him and if I bring the fairing and cap in he will Charge 125.- to do it..He will sand and prep, prime, shoot color and 2 coats of clear.

Hey Scott. I had the switch housings painted when my painter did the inner fairing. I would have liked to have them powdercoated, but since he was doing the fairing, well, just had him do those as well. You have to be careful when reassembling the housings as they can get scratched when painted, but if you're careful it's not that hard to reassemble. For my color, it is real hard to match with powdercoat also, so that was another reason. I had the floorboards powdercoated and they came out pretty good, but they are some distance from the other painted items, so you can't see the slight color difference so much. With the housings, you look at them everyday you ride against your inner fairing. It worked for me!
Jerry
BTW, that's cheap for an inner fairing!

Thanks Jerry, just gave me another idea when I take mine in to get done. Hope to get it done before spring. Just have to find the time to take it apart and drop it off.

If you get a service manual and a friend to read it while you do the work. It is real simple and won't take much more than an hour.

I agree. Color match to your bike.
