It's hard to give up the protection and comfort of the taller shields. There really isn't a good compromise. Once you go low, you are going to have some buffeting. For what it is worth, I actually think the taller ones look better! I like the sounds of the one that transitions mentioned in this post. I am going to look into one of those!![/align]

Interesting comment re: liking the look of the taller ones. I for one also find the 4" stock SG windshield pretty stubby and not attractive. The fairing needs a little height coming from the top to balance it out IMO. Anything around 6" to 9" looks best to me.

A lot of good reviews on the recurve windshields.
Enjoy the new ride with what ever one you choose.
On my bike is a copy of a fastaire 8" smoked.
My buddy works with plastics.

Street Glide owners,

Two questions:

1.) What windshileld height did you go with for cruising and/or around the town? I'm a taller rider and would like a larger bubble than stock may offer.

2.) If you did go with an aftermarket windshield and went taller (upwards of 8 inches) did you go clear, smoked, blackout, etc.? Unless I'm riding in driving rain, I'm not sure I'd ever hunker down and drive while looking through the windshield.

In a nutshell, how high is high-enough without losing the classic chopped windshield which the Street Glide offers?

Thanks for the feedback!
I use the Half Moon Shield and its great 8" and Im 5'9", I like to look over my shield vs through. Note how it extends over the speakers, it greatly reduces the wind

I use a Fastair 8" dark smoked. Im 6 feet tall, ride a Mustang solo seat (a bit lower than stock)

I ran the HD 9.5" in the past on my EG classics. Put one on my SG as well, noticed no appreciable difference by adding the extra 1.5", so took it off and went back to the 8" (for looks)

Ive never riden with anything taller than 9.5", because I refuse to use a sheild I have to look THROUGH as apposed to OVER.

I also tried an 8" recurve style sheild, but IMHO, it increased the buffeting around my head drastically. (switched back and forth about a half dozen times over the course of a couple weeks to confirm this) I felt that while it did kick the air up higher, it also caused so much "swirling" of the air, that it negated any benefit.

BTW, I agree that the stock 4" is TOO short, from a LOOKS perspective.

I like my Clearview 6.5" Dark Gray for most riding. Anything taller would be hard to see thru at night.

http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/ They are GREAT people!! And the extra over the top of the speaker really directs the wind arround you.
