I'd like to take a stab at polishing mine. Should I remove them fromt he bike first?
I did and would suggest it. I reattached them with chorme hardware.

I mounted floating rotors and braided brake lines on my Ultra Classic. What a difference!This is a much better investment than chrome.

Does the smooth chrome/polished surface reduce stopping power, at all?

No...the pads will cut right into the polished finish.

The part that contacts your pad won't be polished after a few miles.

My wilwoods came black anodized on the whole rotor and they wore thru the finish in one ride.
